The Sedentary Nomad was established in 1999 with the intent of creating sustainable employment opportunities for the artists with whom we work. We believe that this has benefits for both the customer and the artists.

In addition to paying the artists a fair price for their work, we help finance artists who may be talented but lacking the capital to enter the marketplace. This is achieved by doing most of our purchasing on an order basis: a deposit paid up front with full payment upon completion.
Long before the goods reach North American shores, the artists have been paid and are able to use the payment to meet the demands of daily life.

For the artists and their communities, making a living by selling their work has meant more than just jobs. It has helped to ensure that traditional skills needed to create these works will be honed and passed on to future generations.
