Material: The Banana Fiber products are made by wrapping banana fibre around wire and shaping them into figurines.

Banana trees have always played an important role in the lives of the Kikuyu people who live in this area of Kenya. Their fruit were a staple part of the diet. The large leaves were laid on the ground when slaughtering an animal, then as a protective wrap for the meat. They were used as fodder for the cattle. Finally, the bark was woven into baskets or clothing.

The dried bark is peeled from the base of the tree in strips. The best pieces are long with an even color. These strips are then split in half using a panga. Both sides are used in the figurines. For lighter colored accent the leaves are used.
